Local residents became wealthy from coral collection in earlier years, thus achieving considerable prosperity. The small buildings lining the fishing port streets are densely packed, creating a unique harbor city scenery; the island is even nicknamed "Little Hong Kong." Located just one nautical mile away from Wang'an Island is Jiangmouyu Island, whose area is only one-fifth of Wang'an Island's but with a population nearly equivalent to Wang'an's main island. Due to early enrichment from coral and oyster-shell collection, Jiangmouyu thrived as a bustling island with numerous buildings, displaying a harbor-city atmosphere unlike other islands. Because of its distinctive characteristics, it earned nicknames like "Little Hong Kong" and "Little Kaohsiung." The current residents primarily rely on fishing for their livelihood. On the western side of the island stands the Jiangmou Temple, along with Yong'an Palace and Mazu Temple, serving as the villagers' centers of faith. The decorations and inscriptions inside the three temples clearly reflect their historical ties to the rise and fall of the fishing industry through renovations and reconstructions. Jiangmouyu is surrounded by many islands. On the eastern coast lies "Sail Island," named for its shape resembling a ship's sail, which becomes connected to Jiangmouyu through a tombolo during low tide, earning it the alternative name "Jiangmenyu" as well. Also nearby is the uninhabited "Wangyou Island," famous for its beautiful coral reef ecosystem. Divers and snorkelers can explore its underwater world at the renowned Jinzhuaizi Reef and experience peaceful camping opportunities on this deserted island far from the noise of civilization. Heading south from Jiangmouyu by boat leads to Toujinyu Island within an ecological conservation area. This island boasts a unique landscape of yellow volcanic breccia on one half and black basalt on the other. Along the sea-eroded platforms, numerous tide pools shaped like small ponds host diverse intertidal organisms. The ecology of these tide pools changes as tides flood over them. Additionally, many different species of terns inhabit the island, including migratory birds like the Pallas's tern and whiskered tern. Observers can spot these birds from a distance while cruising!
