Established in 1995 in Puli Township, Nantou County, Taiwan, the university bears the mission of spreading Chinese culture southward and overseas, and is dedicated to cultivating well-rounded talents who are rooted in Taiwan and possess international mobility. It is a comprehensive university consisting of colleges of humanities, management, technology, and education. The surrounding townships of Nantou University are mostly rural and urban areas coexisting, adjacent to the traditional territories of indigenous peoples, with a rich cultural heritage; moreover, it is close to the famous tourist attractions such as Sun Moon Lake, New Central Cross-Island Highway, and Hehuan Mountain. The university has gradually developed various cross-disciplinary and socially engaged innovative teaching programs, which are integrated with the local industry dynamics, forming the distinctive办学 features of "Deep Roots in Shuishalian, Embracing Southeast Asia". The university is situated on a suburban plateau in Puli, shielded by the Central Mountain Range, Hehuan Mountain, and Xue Shan Mountain Range. The 150-hectare campus has 88% of its area covered with rolling grasslands and green spaces, and is surrounded by 12,000 trees of 113 species, including Taiwan杉. The campus is also home to many species of flora and fauna, such as cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, and osmanthus trees, as well as habitats for over 10 species of frogs and 110 species of butterflies. The curriculum incorporates green energy, waste reduction, and intelligent machinery. Nantou University was ranked 51st globally and 3rd in Taiwan in the international "World Green University" rankings. On the Nantou University campus, 700 Taiwan mountain cherry blossoms and over 300 Japanese Yoshino cherry blossoms bloom in late winter to early spring, attracting large crowds to admire the flowers, participate in the university's and community's tea activities, and experience daily beauty.
