Dadaocheng was originally inhabited by the Penglai people. Due to intense clashes between the Tong'an people of Wanhua (Mengka), the local people moved to Dadaocheng and settled there. The construction of shops and houses along the Tamsui River began. After the opening of Tamsui Port, under Liu Mingchuan's administration, Dadaocheng became the most prosperous distribution center of goods in Taipei City. The main trade activities were tea and fabrics. The area around Yanping North Road and Guide Street was the center of commercial activities, making Dadaocheng's early history rich and colorful, and unforgettable.
