The General Li Temple is located in Shanglin Village on Xiaojinmen, near the two major lakes of Xiaojinmen - Xihu Lake and Lingshui Lake. It mainly worships General Li, the Field Officer, and the Boundary Guardian. The temple was built during the middle of the Ming Dynasty. According to legend, General Li led the people and military to Xiaojinmen to raise livestock and cultivate the land. He was kind to the people, had supernatural powers, and could call leaves into soldiers, successfully repelling pirates and gaining the people's deep respect. Later generations built the temple at the place where he first landed and where pirates often attacked, in order to ward off evil spirits and to commemorate his virtuous deeds. It is said that during the August 23rd Artillery Battle, the Xiaojinmen area was bombarded with heavy fire, but the General Li Temple remained unscathed, which is amazing. In front of the temple, there are large banyan trees and casuarinas, which are suitable for shade and cooling in summer, and also offer a view of the sea. The front is Shanglin Beach, with a pavilion and a viewing bridge, making it the best spot to view the mainland. The view is vast, and one can also see the islands of Dadan, Erdan, and Shiyu.
