Beiyue Temple is located at the foot of Wuhu Mountain in the northeastern corner of Kinmen. According to legend, it was originally built during the Southern Song Dynasty. In the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates landed and destroyed the mountain village in the west, and Beiyue Temple, located there, was also affected. Later, it was restored, but was destroyed by strong winds in the late Qing Dynasty. In 1979, with the support of local villagers in Xishan and overseas compatriots, the temple was proposed for reconstruction and was completed in 1984, taking on its present appearance. The temple enshrines the God of Beiyue, Lady Beiyue, and the God of刑 (Xing). Among the temples on the island, the main scale of Beiyue Temple is considered to be relatively large. Couplets: Main Gate Couplet: The mountain stands in the north, ensuring peace and safety for nine regions; the power oversees the well-being of the people, relying on the blessings. Side Inner Couplet of the Chihu Window: The mountain stands in the north, reaching the Purple Palace; the position is exalted, blessing the people with water's virtue. Side Outer Couplet of the Chihu Window: The imperial virtue is grand, honoring the northern mountain; the divine spirit is mighty, protecting Xishan. Column Couplet One: The sea dragon turns back, calming the demonic atmosphere and clearing the northern region; the phoenix peak's clouds gather, revealing the sacred image and blessing the Wu Island. Column Couplet Two: The virtue of saving the country and helping the people is mighty, reaching the Purple Palace; the virtue of benevolence and the king's virtue is grand, guarding the dark gate. Column Couplet Three: Protecting the country and helping the people, the king's virtue is widely distributed, shining for thousands of years; driving away evil and guarding the path, the king's virtue is honored for hundreds of generations. Column Couplet Four: The eternal mountain is majestic, the divine spirit of the ancient times is revered by the emperor; the bright king is mighty, and the people sing praises, enjoying the divine blessings. Column Couplet Five: The virtue of saving the people is like a gentle rain and wind, bestowing blessings; the bright king saves the world, and the people admire the divine power of virtue. Middle Couplet of the First Floor: The main Beiyue Mountain transforms the form, and the bright king is present; holding the mysterious principle, the virtue of the king is clearly revealed.
