The Wu Miao (Temple of Martial Gods) enshrines Guan Sheng Di Jun (the Emperor of Martial Valor). The "Outer Wu Miao" is a subsidiary structure of the Wu Miao, which is a temple dedicated to Guan Di's horse, Chi Tu, as well as his generals and attendants. Therefore, it is commonly called "Ma She Gong" (the Temple of Horses). The Wu Miao in Houpu was built during the late Ming Dynasty, in the reign of Yongli. Later, the "Outer Wu Miao" was constructed outside the western gate, enshrining the Han Wangye (Prince Han), who is the tutelary deity of the western gate area. To distinguish it from the city's Wu Miao, it is called the "Outer Wu Miao." To the right of the temple is a major thoroughfare. A new stage has been built in front of the temple's square. Every time a performance is held during the temple's festival, the square is crowded with people watching the play, along with the flowing traffic, creating a climax of the celebration.
