Youth Park

2017-07-04
Youth Park is a comprehensive open park in the Taipei metropolitan area, located on the western side of Wanhua District, Taipei City. It is adjacent to Guoxing Road on the east, Youth Road on the west, Shuichuan Road on the south, and Youth Road on the north. It covers an area of 24.44 hectares. Its land use dates back to the Japanese colonial period, originally a military drill ground, then transformed into an airport. Because it is located at the southern end of the city and is opposite the Songshan Airport at the northern end, it is called the "South Airport." In 1953, the Taipei Rural Club and the Ministry of National Defense collaborated to establish the Taipei Golf Club. On Youth Day in 1974, the park was taken over by the Taipei City Government, according to instructions from the Executive Yuan, and was transformed into Youth Park. It was officially taken over in October of the same year, and was completed in September 1977, becoming a great place for leisure and activities for Taipei citizens. The park is well-equipped with beautiful trees and flowers, and has a variety of sports facilities. There is a golf course near Guoxing Road (ticket sales available), and eight swimming pools near Shuichuan Road. On the southern side of the park, there are six tennis courts. The swimming pool building also has a billiard room for billiards. Free sports and recreation facilities include basketball courts, badminton courts, baseball fields, skating rinks, tennis practice walls, and outdoor sports areas, which are distributed throughout the park. In addition, the park has educational facilities such as a bonsai museum, reading room, audio-visual classroom, open-air music stage, and police station to serve citizens and tourists. In addition to various hardware facilities, the planning of the park's landscape, the arrangement of greenery, and the distribution of plantings are the main factors in building the park's beauty. The main entrance of the park has a flower bed arranged radially, and it is planted with flowers such as impatiens, cockscomb, portulaca, cigar flowers, butterfly flowers, and goldflower, which are bright and beautiful. Behind it, there are shrubs such as azaleas, red状元, variegated leaf trees, Chinese juniper, and red barked trees, giving visitors the feeling of a place full of flowers, colorful and enchanting. The central part of the park is filled with grass, with lush green grass, neatly arranged, and surrounded by banyan trees planted in pairs, forming a dense green tunnel. When viewed from a distance, it is a sea of green, and strolling through it feels like being in a forest bath, which can help adjust both body and mind. Next to the grassy area, there are many coniferous forests (such as Australian pines), and in the morning, many citizens exercise there, which is beneficial to their health. The grassy area is connected to the meandering bridge on the northeast side of the park through a waterway. On both sides of the pond, aquatic plants are planted, and there are fountains scattered, complementing each other and enhancing the scenery. In addition, on the east side of the baseball field, there are many maple trees, which have grown old and formed a maple forest. During the fall, the maple leaves are also a beautiful winter scene. On the surrounding areas of the park, azaleas are planted, and when they bloom in spring, the colors are bright and vivid, adding to the beauty of the park. In addition, the park is filled with trees, shrubs, grass, flower beds, benches, pavilions, health trails, and sculptures. The roads are wide, and there are scenic spots everywhere, making it an excellent example of a large comprehensive park. Youth Park is vast and has diverse and well-equipped facilities, providing citizens with leisure, sports, educational, and rehabilitation functions. From children to the elderly, whether disabled or healthy, everyone can enjoy it. In order to make the park beautiful, not only the beautiful scenery needs to be created, but also the participation of the public, to appreciate, use, cherish, and enjoy the results of the city's construction.
