Located on Jinxin Street, the Ciho Temple has a history of over two hundred years and is the largest temple in Jinshan. It mainly enshrines the Golden-Faced Mazu, which is the center of local faith, and is known as the "Da Miao" (Great Temple) by the locals. The exquisite artistry presented in every aspect, from the foundation, roof framing, and roof to the body of the temple, is worth appreciating. The main hall's eight-sided dragon pillars are masterpieces of the Qing dynasty's Tongzhi era and are quite rare. The Mazu in Ciho Temple is divided into Da Ma (the larger one) and Er Ma (the smaller one). Er Ma once drifted in the sea and was discovered on the coast of Yehliu by chance. Because the statue was only eight inches tall, in order to match the size of Da Ma, devotees collectively raised funds to carve a larger Mazu statue and hid the eight-inch one inside, which is the origin of the "Mazu within a Mazu". Later, Er Ma makes a pilgrimage from Jinshan to Yehliu every year on the 16th day of the fourth lunar month to "return home", which has become a unique celebration among Jinshan, Shimen, and Wanli.
