The Yansha Ancient Trail located in Changhua County, with its winding mountain road, is locally referred to as "Shí Bā Wān Zǎi" (eighteen turns), hence also known as the "Eighteen Turns Ancient Trail". Before the road was opened, it was an important route for residents of Shetou Township in Changhua County and Mingjian Township in Nantou County to transport goods. It was also a necessary route for merchants from Lugang and Xihu to hire porters to buy and sell salt, with a history of about three to four hundred years.
