Songbei Road was the ancestral route used by the Thao people to travel between Puli for collecting land taxes, and more importantly, the primary site for the Yuan surname clan chief ancestor spirit rituals. Before Sun Moon Lake was flooded, it served as a critical old salt-carrying path, with a porter sculpture installed at the trail section near the lake. The trailhead is located between Wenshuyan Temple and Peacock Garden. Winding through dense forest paths to the observation deck, visitors can fully enjoy native flora and fauna, insect and bird ecosystems, as well as the floating fields and fishing boats along the lake's edge.
