In 2003, Chen Zhangsheng, the head of Chang'an Village, initiated the "Return the Old Station to Hometown" movement, and the villagers' meeting approved the initiative. In 2004, the Baotou Li Ren Association, community cultural and historical workers, and residents promoted the "Remember the Old Station, Come to the New Beitou" event. In 2005, the Director of the Cultural Bureau, Liao Xianhao, accompanied by residents from Beitou, traveled south to Zhanghua to visit the Taiwan Folk Village. In 2007, with the assistance of the Taipei City Cultural Bureau, the Baotou Li Ren Association established the "Beitou Historic Site Fund Account" under the Public Trust Taipei Historic Preservation and Development Fund, hoping to raise relocation funds through public donations. In 2013, the owner of the Taiwan Folk Village, Rirong Asset Management Co., Ltd., realizing that any historical building must be related to its original land to reflect the architectural and local cultural and historical roots, agreed to donate the New Beitou Station to the Taipei City Government free of charge. In 2016, Mayor Ko Wen-je presided over the beam-lifting ceremony, marking the start of the reconstruction project. In 2017, the reconstruction was completed near the original site.
