Simplified Chinese Japanese English Korean Tiger Well Island is the seventh largest island in Penghu Archipelago, featuring magnificent columnar jointed basalt landscapes and lying along the Tropic of Cancer at 23.5° latitude. In 2020 it was selected as one of Taiwan’s classic towns. Here a 55‑meter long Sun‑Chasing Avenue was built, with a giant hand sculpture installed at the end of the trail, as if opening both hands to greet the falling sunlight. Because the sea below the cliffs is crystal clear and beautiful, the area is known for the scenery of “Tiger Well Clear Waters.” Famous attractions on the island include Guanyin Park and the Nanjin Command Post. The Guanyin statue in Guanyin Park was sculpted by a Shandong sculptor, standing four meters tall, commissioned by Mr. Chen Yingjie, a Penghu native living in Hong Kong, and donated to his hometown after a long absence. The Nanjin Command Post is said to have been used by Japanese General Yamamoto Isoroku as a base for the Pearl Harbor invasion; because Tiger Well Island occupies a strategic location, remnants of military facilities from World War II can be seen everywhere. It is worth mentioning that at the waterfront street of Tiger Well Island, cats can be seen at any time sun‑bathing lazily, stretching, and walking, because the cat density on the island is high. In recent years it has also been called the “Cat Island.” In addition, to create a distinctive image for Tiger Well Island, an existing pavilion near Tiger Well Pier has been transformed into a cat‑themed pavilion that highlights the name “Tiger Well.” It not only provides visitors with a high‑quality rest spot, but also adds a new attraction for tourism.
