Wufenpu - Ready-to-Wear Street

2024-04-11
Where is the center of garment wholesale in Taipei? The first answer in everyone's mind is "Wufengpu." There are hundreds of wholesale stores gathered near Songshan Railway Station. The name "Wufengpu" came from the Qing Dynasty, when Wufengpu was the area where the indigenous Pingpu people lived. Later, five families - He, Zhou, Shen, Du, and Li - bought this land from the Pingpu people and started to develop it, naming the village "Wufengpu." The economic development of Taiwan over half a century, from poverty to working day and night to become wealthy, is similar to the development history of Wufengpu. People coming from the south to seek a living gathered in Wufengpu. They took the leftover or unsold fabrics from the export garments, simply processed and stitched them into undergarments, children's clothes, or rough work clothes, which were sold by street vendors and retail shops. Gradually, this developed the reputation of Wufengpu. Now, hundreds of garment companies have gathered here, with products coming from all over the province, even imported from Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea, and Singapore. Cheap clothing attracts small-scale wholesalers and retailers, and due to the wide variety of styles and popular cuts, many young people also come here for shopping, creating eye-catching fashion styles by arbitrarily matching individual pieces. When the desire to shop arises, but the budget is limited or you don't want to spend a lot, the best place is Wufengpu. It is worth noting that haggling is also a common shopping phenomenon here. The battle of prices with the shop owner adds to the fun of shopping!
