The famous landmark, Badaling, is a castle-like building located at the roundabout where Jiu Jing Road and Ba Qing Road intersect on Lieyu Island. It is about dozens of zhang high. On the roof of the building, there are seven heroic warrior statues, each holding a grenade or machine gun, in battle positions facing the four directions. This was built in memory of seven brave soldiers who, during the Anti-Japanese War in 1933, defended the ancient pass at Gu Bei Kou of the Great Wall. After killing hundreds of enemies, they heroically sacrificed their lives and successfully completed their mission. Around the short walls surrounding the four sides of Badaling, there are large-character slogans expressing spirit, such as "Independent Operations," "Self-Reliance," "Persist Until the End," and "Seek Survival in Death," further highlighting the determination to resist the enemy on the front lines and protect the country and its people.
