Lion Head Mountain Park

2025-07-28
Located at the Jinshan Cape, Mt. Shitou offers a view of Yehliu Cape to the east, and the coastal scenery of Huanggang Fishing Harbor and Zhongjiao to the west. Long protected by military control, Mt. Shitou boasts a diverse and rich ecological environment. The varied forest landscape provides a habitat for many seasonal flora, and visitors may occasionally encounter Taiwanese lilies or red spider lilies along the trails. Spring is the best season to see Taiwanese lilies, which bloom on the mountain cliffs with elegant and fragrant white flowers, creating another beautiful ecological scene on Mt. Shitou. In addition, as a coastal area, the mountain is home to a wide variety of coastal plants, including sea bu柑, beach morning glory, and Taiwan sawtooth palm. Around September or October, visitors can observe the flowering of the golden lily (crinum asiaticum) , a native species that blooms in the fall on the North Coast, in the plant area near Zhongzheng Pavilion. The most striking ecological feature of this plant is "seeing flowers without leaves, and seeing leaves without flowers". At the end of the trail, the well-known "Twin Candlestick Islets" stand before visitors, sculpted by plate movement and natural erosion. These two towering islets, formed from sedimentary rocks pushed out of the sea 6 million years ago and weathered by wind, rain, and waves, resemble art pieces carved by human hands, demonstrating the astonishing beauty of geology.
