"Da Tou Zheng Di Er Dai" doesn't sell braised duck heads. The second-generation owner, from Yunlin and nicknamed "Da Tou," has been selling only two soups and two meals for more than 40 years: egg-wrapped guazai meat soup, red meat soup, red meat curry rice, and braised pork rice. Among these, the egg-wrapped guazai meat soup is not commonly found in Taipei. It is made with a broth base of large bones, adding meat balls made from pork hind legs and crispy pickled cucumbers. Before serving, a half-cooked egg is wrapped around it. The soup, mixed with the pickled cucumber sauce, is salty yet sweet, with a distinct and fresh flavor. The egg wrapper is made from duck eggs, slightly larger than regular chicken eggs, with a richer taste. It can be eaten alone, or pierced with chopsticks to let the egg yolk flow out, mixing with the soup and meat balls. It offers a unique sticky texture, a balance of salty, sweet, and fresh flavors, and is definitely worth trying.
